how do i form external and internal hips on roof canopies

Answers:

From: Terry

to form an external hip assuming you are working with a 90 degree corner and same pitch roof on both sides you would set your first rafter or truss back from the end of your building half the width of the building. so if you had abuilding that was 30 feet wide by 60 feet long you would set your first truss or rafter back 15 feet from the end of the building. your hip rafter would the go from the corner of the building to the peak of your first truss. you would then fill in between the hip rafter and the first truss with jack rafters thus forming the hip.
