I am doing a Timber framing project for Tafe. Can I please get some questions answered here?

Before I can design & cost the components off the plan I need to learn how to calculate the "Roof load width & The Floor load width" of a given plan. I can't find the fomulas in any of my text books yet. Your help would be much appriciated. Regards Craig.
