A metal roof car gives protection from lightening. Doe's a sun roof compromise that protection? | |
Answers:
1No
The car shields you because the charge of the electricity resides on the surface of the metal. This is why it is dangerous to touch it.
This is the same reason you get shocked touching a 'live', bare wire.
If in that situation just hunker down, sit tight and call help on your cell...IF......you can get a signal thru the electron-screen surrounding your car. You could probably open a window a little tho.
More than likely the sunroof is made of glass and that is an insulator. So it the rubber seal between it and the metal chassis of the car on which it seals.
However......
......if the lightning is bent on being directed to something inside the car, or under the car, the car probably won't afford you much help. Lightning would burn a hole right thru it and anything in it's path. Don't know if that's ever happened, but I think it's more unlikely than likely.
