Does a new roof (30 degree pitch) require a "collar"? | |
We have just had a new house extension built and is being tiled currently. The up and over style roof is a simple extension to our older loft wjich includes 4 beams half way up which I am told are a collar to prevent the roof flattening in high winds or heavy loading. The new build differs slightly as it has 5 inch joist and a low stud wall support each side (over steels) about 1.65m from the eaves. The span is 9 metres at 30 degrees, and the extenson is 5.3m across the ridge. Why has the builder omited a collar? Is it safe and will it sag?
